Snow Temperature for Surface
Back
This is a raster product representing the temperature (in ºCelsius) of each pixel covered with snow in Scandinavia. The variable is extracted from the MODIS images through the Key's algorithm. The extraction is set up monthly by NR. The product is a monthly average of all the observations available for the month. This number of days with observations is usually close to 20. Indeed the Terra satellite supporting the MODIS sensor passes over Scandinavia 2-3 times in daylight every day. The monthly standard deviation is also stored in the EuroClim database.

The resolution of the MODIS sensor for the spectral bands used for extraction of temperature is around 1km. Snow surface temperature is a geometrically corrected 1km grid product in the Polar stereographic projection in EuroClim HDF-S format.
